U2’s The Edge will host a Charity Auction for Music Rising
David Evans, the real name of The Edge, began Music Rising in 2005. With the help of record producer, Bob Ezrin, and Gibson chairman, Henry Juskiewicz, The Edge created Music Rising in order to protect the unique musical heritage of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
The Edge, guitarist, keyboardist, vocalist, announced April 23, 2008, that he will donate two Gibson guitars to benefit the charity. The Edge noted that there is “something powerful about musicians giving instruments they own to an auction to aid musicians who are going through a particularly difficult time.”
This charity “Icons of Music” sale, will auction guitars played by Johnny Cash, Kurt Cobain (Nirvana) , and Slash (Guns N Roses); a trumpet played by Jazz great Miles Davis; and notes handwritten by Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, and Paul McCartney. Julien’s Auctions will hold the sale at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City.
